Valentine’s Day is sneaking up on us. It will be here in six days and in the attempt to stay ahead of the game, so to speak, I have already sent packages to my college student children, But as for my husband… I still need to write that love poem. Yes, being a writer I do have a particular affection for words and even for those folks who do not consider themselve poets, taking the time to express you sentiments using paper and ink or even computer and email is a genuine way to show someone you’re thinking about them and you are willing to take the time to share your innermost feelings.
Not that I don’t also love fresh flowers, but roses are out of season–making them quite expensive and even double expensive due to the demand. At least some of the other cut flowers like Astroemeria and mums are lasting two weeks in my chilly house plus there’s the potted cyclamen which is sporting three red blooms in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Back during the Victorian era, gloves were a popular and romantic gift for a Valentine. Plus they are a practical gift if they will keep your hands warm. Another inexpensive idea is purchasing an itune or album online an emailing it as a gift, if it is music you know they’s appreciate, or there is always chocolate. I love chocolate.
Roses are beautiful but I think that they are a gift from the unimaginative. All those lovely, wonderful flowers out there and roses are the ones that get purchased.

True enough. There are many lovely flowers that last longer.
